Edwina and Gruffalo

January 9, 2011

Last week, Dr. Jaya told us two stories. Actually, the stories were for the kids but I enjoyed listening to them as  it reminded me of my childhood where my mother sometimes did the same thing to me. The only difference is my mother told the stories in Malay but Dr. Jaya did it in English. Here are the reviews of the stories.

1st story: Edwina the Emu

This story is about a female emu, Edwina who tried to shift the responsibility of taking care of the babies with her husband. She tries so many jobs like being the cleaner and waitress but at last she realized that she is the one who have to take care of the babies. We can see that Edwina is such a strong and responsible mother towards her children as she is willing to sacrifice to make sure her babies will have the bright future. This book should be read to kids to make them realize how important a mother's love in the children life.

2nd story: Gruffalo
The story is about a mice who met many of her enemies on its way. Because she is very good in making up stories, she told all the enemies that she was going to meet an animal named Gruffalo. All the animals ran away after knowing about Gruffalo. Without realizing that Gruffalo is really exist, she was surprised when she met the animal. She created another story so that Gruffalo will afraid of her. She was lucky as Gruffalo also ran away from her. This book has an interesting story as it contains many repetitions that would make the kids exited to know what is going to happen next. By using this technique, the writer actually make the children memorize the story easier. This book should be read to kids as it contains excitement and show how to act wisely when the kids face the danger.
